Chapter Study & Analysis

Esther 2 follows the search for a new queen. Esther, a Jewish orphan raised by her cousin Mordecai, finds favor with all and is crowned queen. Meanwhile, Mordecai discovers a plot against the king and reports it, saving the king’s life.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Favor is from the Lord: Esther found favor with the keeper of the women and the king (v. 9, 17). When God has a plan, He prepares the hearts of others to support you.
2. Faithfulness in the Shadows: Mordecai saved the king and was not immediately rewarded (v. 23). We must do what is right because it is right, trusting that God keeps the true record of our deeds.
3. Hidden Identities: Esther kept her heritage secret as advised. There is a time to speak and a time to be silent; discernment is knowing the difference.

FORMAL PRAYER

Grant us favor, O Lord, in the eyes of those around us. Help us to remain faithful in small and hidden tasks, knowing that nothing escapes Thy notice and Thy perfect timing. Amen.
