Chapter Study & Analysis

Ezra 10 describes the national response to Ezra’s prayer. The people tremble at the Word and agree to separate from their foreign wives and idols. A commission is established to ensure the reformation is carried out thoroughly.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Hope through Action: "There is hope in Israel concerning this thing" (v. 2). Hope is not just a feeling; it is found when we take concrete steps to correct our errors.
2. The Weight of Leadership: The people said to Ezra, "Arise; for this matter belongeth unto thee: we also will be with thee" (v. 4). When leaders take a stand for Truth, others will find the courage to follow.
3. The Cost of Reformation: Separating from foreign influences was painful but necessary for the nation’s survival. True reform often requires difficult and costly decisions.

FORMAL PRAYER

Arise, Lord, and help us to deal with the areas of compromise in our lives. Give us the courage to make the hard choices necessary to remain a holy and peculiar people unto Thee. Amen.
