Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Ezra 7 introduces Ezra, a descendant of Aaron and a ready scribe in the law of Moses. King Artaxerxes grants him everything he requests to go to Jerusalem, for the hand of the Lord was upon him to teach the statutes of Israel.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Preparing the Heart: Ezra "prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it" (v. 10). Study without obedience is incomplete; we must live the Truth before we teach it.
2. The Hand of God: The phrase "the hand of the Lord was upon him" appears multiple times. Divine favor follows those who are dedicated to God’s Word.
3. Support from Unexpected Sources: God used Artaxerxes to fund the mission. God provides the necessary resources for any work He initiates.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
Lord, grant us the heart of Ezra to seek, do, and teach Thy Word. May Thy good hand be upon us in our projects, providing the wisdom and means to honor Thy Name. Amen.
