Chapter Study & Analysis

Ezra 5 records the restart of the Temple work under the prophetic encouragement of Haggai and Zechariah. Despite renewed inquiries from local governors, the elders continue to build, trusting in the "eye of their God."

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Role of Prophetic Encouragement: The work resumed because of the Word of God through the prophets (v. 1-2). We need the regular intake of Scripture to stay motivated in our calling.
2. The "Eye of God": The leaders were not intimidated because "the eye of their God was upon the elders" (v. 5). Awareness of God’s presence is the ultimate cure for the fear of man.
3. Confidence in Identity: When questioned, they identified as "servants of the God of heaven and earth." Knowing who we are in God defines how we respond to pressure.

FORMAL PRAYER

Open our ears to hear Thy Word, that we may be encouraged to finish the work Thou hast given us. May we walk in the confidence that Thine eye is always upon us for good. Amen.
