Overview
Micah 7 - The Prophet’s Prayer and God’s Pardoning Grace: Micah laments the total breakdown of society where no one can be trusted. He resolves to wait for the God of his salvation. The book ends with a magnificent hymn praising God for pardoning iniquity and casting sins into the depths of the sea.
THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT
1. Social Collapse: A description of a society so corrupt that even family members betray each other (v. 5-6), which Jesus later quoted (Matt 10:35).
2. The Waiting Servant: "Therefore I will look unto the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation" (v. 7). Confidence in the midst of darkness.
3. The Depths of the Sea (v. 19): A beautiful metaphor for God’s total forgiveness: "thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea."
Practical Lessons
PRACTICAL LESSONS
1. Trust in Crisis: When society fails and people are untrustworthy, our only stable foundation is the character of God.
2. The Joy of Forgiveness: We serve a God who "delighteth in mercy" and does not retain His anger forever.
