Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Micah 5 - The Ruler from Bethlehem: A prophecy that from Bethlehem Ephratah shall come forth a Ruler in Israel whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. He shall stand and feed His flock in the strength of the Lord, and shall be the peace when the Assyrian comes.
THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT
1. Messianic Origins (v. 2): One of the most specific prophecies in the Bible, identifying Bethlehem as the birthplace of Christ and affirming His pre-existence ("from everlasting").
2. The Shepherd King: He will not just rule, but "feed" (pasture) His flock, showing the tender nature of the Messianic reign.
3. Victory over Enemies: God promises to deliver His people and "cut off" the horses and chariots (false security) of the nation.
Practical Lessons
PRACTICAL LESSONS
1. God’s Choice of the Small: God chose "little" Bethlehem for the greatest event in history, showing He values humility over worldly status.
2. True Peace: Our security is found in a Person (the Messiah), not in military or economic power.
