Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Timothy 6 addresses the relationship between servants and masters, warns against the "love of money," and exhorts the "man of God" to flee worldly lusts and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, and love.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Contentment is Great Gain: Godliness with contentment is our greatest wealth (v. 6). We brought nothing into this world and can carry nothing out; therefore, we should be satisfied with food and raiment.
2. The Root of All Evil: The love of money (not money itself) is the root of all evil, leading many to pierce themselves through with many sorrows (v. 10). We must guard our hearts against the snare of covetousness.
3. The Good Fight of Faith: We are called to "lay hold on eternal life" and keep the commandment without spot (v. 12-14). Our life is a race and a battle that requires persistent focus on the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ.

FORMAL PRAYER

O King of kings and Lord of lords, who only hast immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto: keep us from the snares of this world. Help us to be rich in good works, ready to distribute, and willing to communicate. Amen.
