Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Timothy 1 warns against "fables and endless genealogies" that cause contention rather than godly edifying. Paul reminds Timothy of the proper use of the Law and recounts his own conversion as a testimony of Christ’s long-suffering toward the "chief of sinners."

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Goal of the Commandment: Charity out of a pure heart, a good conscience, and faith unfeigned (v. 5). Our doctrine must produce love and integrity, not just intellectual debate.
2. The Purpose of the Law: The law is not for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient (v. 9). We must use Scripture to expose sin and lead people to the Gospel of grace.
3. Faithful Sayings: "Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners" (v. 15). This is the core of our message. No matter how far someone has fallen, the grace of our Lord is "exceeding abundant."

FORMAL PRAYER

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God: be honour and glory for ever and ever. Grant us grace to war a good warfare, holding faith and a good conscience in all things. Amen.
