Chapter Study & Analysis

1 Kings 5 details the preparations for building the Temple. Solomon enters into a treaty with Hiram, King of Tyre, for cedar and fir trees. Thousands of workers are organized to quarry and prepare the great stones for the foundation.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Preparing for God’s Work: The Temple was built during a time of rest (v. 4). We should use the quiet seasons of our lives to prepare for the great tasks God has for us.
2. Collaborating for the Kingdom: Solomon worked with Hiram, a Gentile, for the glory of God. We can work with others in the world to accomplish good things, provided we maintain our integrity.
3. The Importance of the Foundation: Great care was taken in the "costly stones" of the foundation (v. 17). What is hidden from view is often the most important part of any spiritual building.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord, help us to prepare our hearts for Thy service. May we be diligent in building a firm foundation of faith that is hidden in Thee, ready for whatever Thou callest us to build. Amen.
