Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
1 Kings 18 records the great confrontation on Mount Carmel. Elijah challenges 450 prophets of Baal to a test of fire. God answers with fire from heaven, consuming the sacrifice, the wood, and the water, leading to the execution of the false prophets and the end of the drought.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Decision Over Hesitation: "How long halt ye between two opinions?" (v. 21). We cannot serve God with a divided heart; true faith requires a clear decision to follow the Truth.
2. The Power of Fervent Prayer: Elijah’s prayer was brief but based on God’s glory (v. 36-37). Effective prayer is not about length, but about alignment with God’s purpose.
3. Repairing the Altar: Before the fire fell, Elijah repaired the broken altar of the Lord. Restoration in our lives must begin with restoring our private place of worship.
Practical Lessons

Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel: let it be known this day that Thou art God. Consume the idols of our hearts with Thy holy fire and lead us back to a path of undivided devotion. Amen.
