Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Nehemiah 6 records the final attempts to stop the work through rumors and false prophecies. Nehemiah discerns the traps, finishes the wall in 52 days, and even his enemies perceive that the work was done by God.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Staying Focused: To the invitation to "negotiate," Nehemiah replied, "I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down" (v. 3). We must refuse distractions that pull us away from our primary calling.
2. Discerning False Fear: The enemy tried to make Nehemiah sin through fear (v. 13). Discernment is necessary to distinguish between a "legal" threat and a "spiritual" trap.
3. God Gets the Credit: When the wall was finished, the heathen were cast down because they saw God’s hand (v. 16). The best testimony is a completed task that only God could have accomplished.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
Lord, keep us focused on the great work Thou hast given us. Grant us discernment to see through the distractions of the enemy and let the completion of our tasks bring glory to Thy Name. Amen.
