Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Nehemiah 12 records the dedication of the walls. Two massive choirs walk atop the walls in opposite directions, meeting at the Temple with such loud praise that the "joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off."
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Sanctifying our Work: They purified the walls and the gates (v. 30). We should dedicate the results of our labor—our houses, businesses, and projects—to the Lord.
2. The Impact of Public Praise: The joy was heard "afar off" (v. 43). Our public testimony of God’s goodness should be loud and clear to the world around us.
3. Organized Excellence: The singers and priests were restored to their duties according to the "commandment of David." God is honored by order and excellence in ministry.
Practical Lessons
FORMAL PRAYER
We dedicate the work of our hands to Thee, O Lord. May our praise be so genuine and loud that those far off may hear and know that Thou art our God and our King. Amen.
