Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Corinthians 12 contains Paul’s account of his visions of Paradise and the "thorn in the flesh" given to keep him humble. He famously records the Lord’s promise: "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness."

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Purpose of the "Thorn": God may allow persistent trials to prevent pride and keep us dependent on Him (v. 7). Our "thorns" are often the tools of our sanctification.
2. Sufficient Grace: When we ask for deliverance and it doesn’t come, we must rest in the promise that His grace is "enough" (v. 9). God provides the power to endure even when He does not remove the trial.
3. Strength in Weakness: We should "take pleasure in infirmities" for Christ’s sake, for when we are weak in ourselves, then are we truly strong in His power (v. 10).

FORMAL PRAYER

O Lord, we thank Thee for Thy grace which is sufficient for every trial. When we feel weak and burdened by our "thorns," let Thy power rest upon us, that Thy strength may be made perfect in our infirmity. Amen.
