Chapter Study & Analysis

Philippians 4 provides final exhortations on unity, joy, and prayer. Paul reveals the secret of contentment in all circumstances and concludes with the promise that God shall supply all our needs according to His riches in glory.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. The Cure for Anxiety: Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God (v. 6). Prayer is the divine exchange for peace.
2. Guarding the Mind: We are commanded to think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, and of good report (v. 8). Our mental health and spiritual peace depend on what we allow our minds to dwell upon.
3. The Secret of Contentment: "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (v. 13). This is not about achieving worldly goals, but about having the strength to be content in both abundance and in need.

FORMAL PRAYER

Now the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Teach us to be content in every state and supply all our need according to Thy riches in glory. Amen.
