Overview
Galatians 5 is a call to "stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free." Paul warns against legalism and license, contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit, and commands believers to "walk in the Spirit."
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Liberty to Love: Our freedom in Christ is not an opportunity for the flesh, but a call to serve one another in love (v. 13). True liberty is the power to do what is right.
2. The Fruit of the Spirit: The evidence of a Spirit-filled life is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (v. 22-23). We should cultivate these traits as the true mark of spiritual maturity.
3. Walking in the Spirit: If we walk in the Spirit, we shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh (v. 16). Victory over sin is found in a positive, active relationship with the Holy Spirit rather than just a list of "don’ts."

FORMAL PRAYER
O Holy Spirit, produce in us Thy precious fruit to the glory of the Father. Grant us the grace to stand fast in our liberty and to walk in Thy power, that we may not fulfill the desires of the flesh but serve one another in love. Amen.
