Chapter Study & Analysis

Ephesians 4 exhorts believers to walk worthy of their calling in unity and lowliness. Paul discusses the diverse gifts given to the church (apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers) for the perfecting of the saints and the growth of the Body.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Maintaining Unity: We must endeavor to keep the "unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace" (v. 3). Unity is not something we create, but something we must diligently preserve through humility.
2. Equipping the Saints: Ministry is not just for "professionals"; gifts are given to equip *all* saints for the work of the ministry (v. 12). Every member has a vital role in the growth of the church.
3. Putting on the New Man: We are called to "put off" the old conversation and "put on the new man" (v. 22-24). This involve a daily renewal of the mind and a commitment to truth, labor, and kind speech.

FORMAL PRAYER

Lord Jesus, who hast given gifts unto men: help us to grow up into Thee in all things. Grant us the grace to speak the truth in love and to be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another as Thou hast forgiven us. Amen.
