Chapter Study & Analysis

Colossians 3 exhorts believers to "seek those things which are above." Paul describes the process of putting off the "old man" with his deeds and putting on the "new man," outlining the character of a Christian household and the priority of peace.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Setting the Affection Above: We must set our minds on heavenly things, not on earthly things (v. 2). An eternal perspective is the only way to navigate the temptations and distractions of this world.
2. The New Wardrobe: We are called to "put on" bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, and longsuffering (v. 12). Above all, we must put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
3. Doing All for Christ: Whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus (v. 17). This elevates even the most mundane task into an act of worship and service.

FORMAL PRAYER

Heavenly Father, since we are risen with Christ, help us to seek those things which are above. Let Thy peace rule in our hearts and Thy Word dwell in us richly, that in all we do, we may give thanks unto Thee through Jesus Christ. Amen.
