Colossians 2 Study & Commentary
Colossians 2 warns against being "spoiled through philosophy and vain deceit." Paul affirms that in Christ dwells all the fulness of the Godhead bodily and that He has blotted out the "handwriting of ordinances" that was against us.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Beware of Human Philosophy: We must not be led astray by traditions or philosophies that are not after Christ (v. 8). Scripture is our final authority, not the shifting trends of human thought.2. Complete in Him: "Ye are complete in him" (v. 10). We do not need extra rituals, secret knowledge, or legalistic rules to be "more" saved or "more" spiritual than we are in Christ.
3. The Victory of the Cross: Christ spoiled principalities and powers, making a show of them openly (v. 15). We live from a position of victory, as the legal debt of our sin has been nailed to the Cross.
