Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Timothy 3 warns of the "perilous times" in the last days, characterized by a form of godliness that denies its power. Paul points Timothy to the Scriptures as the ultimate source of wisdom, correction, and instruction in righteousness.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Discerning the Times: In the last days, men will be "lovers of their own selves" and "lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God" (v. 2-4). We must recognize these traits and turn away from such influences.
2. Persecution is Expected: "All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution" (v. 12). A life of true discipleship will inevitably face opposition from a world in rebellion against God.
3. The Sufficiency of Scripture: All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for every area of life (v. 16-17). The Bible is fully sufficient to equip the man of God for every good work.

FORMAL PRAYER

Almighty God, we thank Thee for the Holy Scriptures which are able to make us wise unto salvation. In these perilous times, help us to continue in the things we have learned, being thoroughly furnished for every good work. Amen.
