Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
2 Timothy 3 warns of the "perilous times" in the last days, characterized by a form of godliness that denies its power. Paul points Timothy to the Scriptures as the ultimate source of wisdom, correction, and instruction in righteousness.
CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS
1. Discerning the Times: In the last days, men will be "lovers of their own selves" and "lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God" (v. 2-4). We must recognize these traits and turn away from such influences.2. Persecution is Expected: "All that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution" (v. 12). A life of true discipleship will inevitably face opposition from a world in rebellion against God.
3. The Sufficiency of Scripture: All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for every area of life (v. 16-17). The Bible is fully sufficient to equip the man of God for every good work.
Practical Lessons
