Chapter Study & Analysis

Malachi 3 - The Messenger and the Tithe: God promises to send His messenger to prepare the way. He challenges the people to "return unto me" and stop robbing Him in tithes and offerings. He promises to open the windows of heaven and rebuke the devourer for those who are faithful.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Refiner’s Fire: The Lord comes to sit as a "refiner and purifier of silver," cleaning the sons of Levi.
2. Robbing God (v. 8): Withholding tithes and offerings is viewed as a direct theft from God’s storehouse.
3. The Book of Remembrance: God keeps a record of those who fear Him and think upon His name, calling them His "jewels."

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Financial Testing: God invites us to "prove" Him through our giving. Financial faithfulness is a gateway to spiritual and material blessing.
2. Immutable Character: "For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed" (v. 6). Our security rests on God’s unchanging nature.
