Chapter Study & Analysis

Jonah 2 - The Prayer from the Deep: From the belly of the fish, Jonah cries out to God, acknowledging his distress and God’s salvation. He vows to pay what he has promised, and the fish vomits him out upon the dry land.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. Jonah as a Sign (Type of Christ): Jesus used Jonah’s three days in the fish as a sign of His own burial and resurrection (Matthew 12:40).
2. The Nature of Salvation: "Salvation is of the Lord" (v. 9). This is the theological core of the book.
3. Sanctuary Focus: Even in the depths, Jonah looks toward God's "holy temple," showing that prayer transcends location.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Grace in the Depths: No matter how deep we have fallen due to our own choices, God hears the cry of a repentant heart.
2. True Gratitude: Deliverance should always lead to a renewed commitment to fulfill God’s calling.
