Chapter Study & Analysis
Overview
Haggai 2 - The Greater Glory: God encourages the builders, promising that the glory of this second house shall be greater than the first. He speaks of "shaking the heavens and the earth" and the coming of the "Desire of all nations." He also promises to bless them from the day they laid the foundation.
THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT
1. The Desire of All Nations (v. 7): A Messianic title referring to Christ, whose presence in the second Temple would provide its true glory.
2. Contagion of Holiness vs. Sin: A lesson on the law: holiness is not contagious by touch, but uncleanness is—showing that ritual alone cannot fix a sinful heart.
3. Zerubbabel as a Signet: God chooses the leader as His representative, preserving the Davidic line through which the Messiah would come.

PRACTICAL LESSONS
1. Don’t Despise Small Beginnings: The second Temple looked small compared to Solomon’s, but God’s presence makes anything glorious.
2. The Blessing of Obedience: From the very day we commit to God’s work, He begins to release a new level of blessing.
