Chapter Study & Analysis

1 John 5 speaks of the victory that overcomes the world—our faith. It discusses the "three that bear witness in heaven" and concludes with the absolute certainty that we have eternal life in the Son of God.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Victory Through Faith: This is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith (v. 4). Faith is the link to the power of God that allows us to prevail over worldly pressures.
2. The Record of God: God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son (v. 11). Our salvation is not a "hopeful guess" but a settled record based on the testimony of God.
3. Confidence in Prayer: If we ask any thing according to His will, He heareth us (v. 14). Effective prayer is not about changing God’s mind, but about aligning our requests with His revealed purposes.

FORMAL PRAYER

Almighty God, we thank Thee for the record that Thou hast given us eternal life in Thy Son. Grant us the victory that overcometh the world, and help us to ask all things according to Thy will, knowing that Thou hearest us. Amen.
