Chapter Study & Analysis

Habakkuk 3 - The Song of Triumph: A prayer in the form of a psalm. Habakkuk recalls God’s mighty acts in the past (the Exodus and Sinai). Despite the total loss of crops and livestock, he resolves to rejoice in the Lord, his strength and his salvation.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. Selah (v. 3, 9, 13): This chapter is a musical composition, meant to be sung in worship despite the crisis.
2. The Theophany: A majestic description of God coming in glory, with "brightness as the light" and "horns coming out of his hand" (v. 4).
3. The Strength of the Lord: God is described as the one who makes the prophet’s feet like "hinds' feet," allowing him to walk on high places of spiritual victory.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Circumstance-Independent Joy: "Although the fig tree shall not blossom... yet I will rejoice in the Lord" (v. 17-18). True joy is rooted in God's character, not in our harvest.
2. Strength for the Heights: God gives us the grace not just to survive the "valley," but to walk with stability in the "high places" of trial.
