Chapter Study & Analysis

Habakkuk 2 - The Vision of Faith: Habakkuk stands on his watchtower to wait for God’s reply. God tells him to write the vision plainly. He declares that the proud soul is not upright, but "the just shall live by his faith." Five "woes" are pronounced against the greed and idolatry of Babylon.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Core of the Gospel (v. 4): "The just shall live by his faith." This is the foundational text for the New Testament doctrine of Justification (Romans 1:17; Galatians 3:11).
2. Universal Glory: "For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea" (v. 14).
3. Divine Silence: "The Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him" (v. 20). A call to trust in God’s ultimate authority.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Waiting on the Watchtower: When confused, we must distance ourselves from the noise of the world and wait for God’s Word.
2. Patience in Fulfillment: "Though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come" (v. 3). God’s timing is perfect, even when it feels slow to us.
