Chapter Study & Analysis

2 Thessalonians 1 offers comfort to the persecuted church, assuring them that God’s judgment is righteous. Paul explains that while they suffer now, Christ will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels to grant rest to the faithful and tribulation to those who trouble them.

CONTEMPORARY APPLICATIONS

1. Growth Amidst Trials: Paul rejoices that the church’s faith "groweth exceedingly" despite persecutions (v. 3). Hardship is often the soil in which the strongest faith is cultivated.
2. The Justice of God: It is a "righteous thing" with God to recompense tribulation to those who trouble His people (v. 6). We can endure injustice today because we know the Judge of all the earth will do right.
3. Glorified in His Saints: When Christ returns, He comes to be "glorified in his saints" and "admired in all them that believe" (v. 10). Our ultimate hope is not just relief from pain, but the shared glory of our Savior.

FORMAL PRAYER

O Lord, who art righteous in all Thy ways: grant us patience and faith in all our persecutions and tribulations. Count us worthy of Thy kingdom, and let the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ be glorified in us, according to Thy grace. Amen.
