How beautiful are thy feet with shoes, O prince's daughter! the joints of thy thighs are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman.

Song of Solomon 7 Study & Commentary

The Beloved continues his description of the Shulamite, focusing on her "stature" and "breath." The Shulamite responds with a bold declaration of belonging: "I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me," inviting him to the fields and vineyards.

THEOLOGICAL CONTEXT

1. The Assurance of Belonging: The shift from "My beloved is mine" (Ch. 2) to "I am my beloved’s" (v. 10) shows a maturation from possessive love to total surrender to His desire.
2. Fruitfulness for the King: The "pleasant fruits, new and old" (v. 13) represent the accumulated works and the fresh devotion that the believer lays up for Christ.
3. The Mandrakes: A symbol of love and fertility within the covenant of grace.

PRACTICAL LESSONS

1. Confidence in Grace: Living in the reality that God actually "desires" fellowship with us.
2. Active Devotion: Inviting Christ into the "fields" (the practical, daily world) to share in our labor and our fruit.
